Celebrating Black History Month!!
This October we organised a touring exhibit
around Cheshire for Black History Month. The exhibit contained lots of information about the
contributions of Black and Asian people throughout history. We also have resources for schools, such as quizzes and information
booklets that can download below.
Black History Month was officially launched by the Mayor in Crewe on the
7th October, at an event organized between ourselves and OCEAN, a local
community based organisation. There was African drumming, lots of
different stalls, food from round the world and of course our exhibition
on black history. Over 120 children from local primary schools came
along to see the exhibition, try their hand at winning our diversity
quiz draw and it seems to have a bit of a boogie as well. Helen
James of OCEAN took to the dance floor at the Crewe Alex showing the
kids a few African dancing moves, which they all seemed to thoroughly
enjoy! Check out a few of our
photos of the day.

Successful Case
We have recently been successful in a case involving a Polish
Migrant worker who had been discriminated against in the work place.

Name Change
At our AGM in 2008 our members decided to change our name to
Cheshire, Halton & Warrington Race & Equality Centre to enable us to
build on the work that we already do by covering all equality strands..
We have now had agreement from the Charity Commission to do this.
Some documents on the website may still have our old name on them
"Cheshire, Halton & Warrington Racial Equality Council" but all future
work will be using our new name.
