Annual General Meeting
Our AGM was held on the 5th February and was well received by all.  The open meeting included a "question time" debate titled "How Does Migration affect Community Cohesion" with a panel of speakers including Chief Constable Peter Fahey, Denise McDowell from Migrant North West and Jan Souness, head of services, Warrington BC.
 

       
Cheshire BME Network Event
This event was held on the 5th December 2007 and was a chance for BME residents of Chester to talk to the council about the services they offer.  The event was very successful and some pictures are available here.

 

BME Network for Cheshire
Thank you to everyone who completed the questionnaire regarding setting up a BME Network for Cheshire.  As a result the meeting held in Chester on the 31st March went very well.  We have now arranged 2 new meeting dates, one in Crewe (19th April) and Warrington (24th April)  Please download the invite here and let us know if you would like to attend.

 

BME Network Survey
We’re thinking of setting up a network just for BME led community and voluntary sector groups across the area and we’d like your views about whether it’s worthwhile and what it should do.

Black & Minority Ethnic (BME) Residents Networking Event
There will be a networking event at Chester Town Hall for BME residents on the 5th December 2007 from 6:30pm-8:30pm.  It will be an informal event including a buffet, and will be a chance for you to find out more about the services Chester City Council provide, and also to talk to councilors and officers about any ideas, concerns or to ask any questions.  To download the flyer please click here or here, and to download an invite click here.

 
                  

Recruitment
Staff from Cheshire Fire and Rescue Service are taking to the road this month as part of a new campaign to recruit firefighters.

The Service is launching the recruitment drive from November 5 with people encouraged to apply on its recruitment hotline - 01606 868733 – or via the website – www.cheshirefire.gov.uk 


The telephone line opens at
9 am on November 5 will remain open until midnight November 30th, with the deadline for returning application forms 12 noon on December 4th.  

The Service is intending to ultimately have a ‘shortlist’ of around 60 people who will attend a series of recruits’ courses throughout 2008. Applications will be sifted on a rolling programme involving pre and full sifts a range of physical, practical, written and numerical assessments, an interview and a medical.

The CRE has recently launched a new report of its formal investigation into regeneration.  The report and summary report can be downloaded here.

 
                      
Cheshire Fire & Rescue Service

Are actively working in Cheshire undertaking Home Safety Assessments and fitting smoke alarms where applicable. This advisory service is available FREE to all domestic properties.  The request form can be found here and is available in English, Arabic, Bengali, Gujarati, Hindu, Polish, Punjabi, Simplified Chinese, Traditional Chinese and Urdu.

Competition
Catalyst
, the race equality magazine produced by the Commission for Racial Equality, is running a competition to select the best in student journalism, illustration and photography.  The winning article, photo essay and illustration on race, class, faith and education will each win a prize of £200 and be published in a future issue of Catalyst.  The competition is open to students in full time education.  If you are interested in submitting an entry the deadline is the 31st December.  Download the poster and leaflet.
