Launch of Reaching Out
Last year we secured funding through a government initiative called
"Change Up" to find out the needs of the BME Voluntary & Community
sector in Cheshire. The Launch event was held on the 26th June and was
well attended.
Annual General Meeting
Our AGM was held on the 5th February and was well received by all. The
open meeting included a "question time" debate titled "How Does
Migration affect Community Cohesion" with a panel of speakers including
Chief Constable Peter Fahey, Denise McDowell from Migrant North West and
Jan Souness, head of services, Warrington BC.

Gypsies and Traveller Research
A new research report was launched in August 2006 called "Here
to Stay" It's the first report of its kind in Cheshire-and will help us
understand the needs and aspirations of Gypsies and Travellers in the
area better. The research was innovative in that it was conducted by
Gypsies and Travellers themselves.
Annual General Meeting
CHAWREC's AGM went very well, with over 50 people attending from a range
of voluntary, community and statutory agencies coming to hear
Dr Vinodh Jaichand from the Irish Centre of Human Rights, author of
"Breaking Down Barriers", talk about race equality and human rights. His
talk was extremely interesting and thought provoking and is
available to download here (Word). For anyone interested in reading
his book "Breaking Down Barriers" you can download a copy from
Amnesty
International.
