Welcome to CHAWREC's Services page!

We work under 4 key areas – policy development, public education, casework and community development, but we also run various shorter term projects that are compatible with our aims.

1. Policy Development
We help organisations in the public, private and voluntary sectors to implement best practice policies that promote equality through one to one advice, training and partnership work. We provide advice on a whole range of practical issues including positive action, cultural diversity, legal obligations, race equality schemes and ethnic monitoring.

2. Public Education
Part of our role within the area is to raise awareness of equality issues and implement appropriate strategies to prevent harassment and discrimination. We do this through involvement in various partnerships as well as events, publicity and exhibitions.

3. Community Development
Because of funding cuts from June we will only be able to offer this service to BME groups in the West Cheshire area. Our community development worker gives advice and support to local BME led groups on all aspects of their development, such as developing business plans, training, registering as a charity and help to identify and secure funding.

4. Casework
We offer a free, independent and completely confidential discrimination/harassment service, which includes representation at Employment Tribunal or court. If you think that you may have been discriminated against then we can advise you on the best course of action and the merits of your claim. Sharon or Pamela, our caseworkers can be e-mailed or you can phone them on 01244 400730, for more information please see the casework page.

Projects
At the moment we have 2 projects running – an educational research project Stand Up 2 Racism and an oral history project Journeys to Cheshire.

Consultancy Work and Training
We offer a wide range of chargeable services around equality and diversity which complement our core services, please see the consultancy and training page for more information.

UK Online Centre
We have an IT suite consisting of 4 new computers.  Anyone can pop in and use the computers during office hours (Mon-Fri 10-4) as long as they agree to some basic terms and conditions.  We are also offering "Online Basics" courses to help get people using the Internet, you can download the latest list of sessions here (PDF).  If you would prefer to come at another date/time then please contact us and we will try and arrange a convenient time.

BME Consultation Panel
We organise a BME Consultation panel, which has around 250 panel members from a range of BME backgrounds across the area of Cheshire. We are able to organise focus groups, panel sessions, postal and one to one consultations on behalf of agencies to ensure that the needs of BME individuals are being considered, please see the BME Consultation Panel page for more information.
